The Community Upgrade Project is the initiative to bring all the content of Arma 2 [+ OA and DLCs] from BI into Arma 3 upgraded to the Arma 3 feature set.
Its goal is to provide those assets to the community as a mod ready to use in the game and as an open-source repository for modders to build upon and learn from.
Cooperative and coordinated effort to get a coherent port of Arma 2 content [+ OA and DLCs] from BI to ARMA 3 standards.
Full availability of all source material under share-alike license (APL-SA).
In essence everyone can make use of the work to build mods on his own as long as he provides credits, shares also his sources and keeps the same license.
Release of the content in a coherent way.
The current release contains all the weapons of Arma 2, Arma 2: Operation Arrowhead, British Armed Forces, Private Military Company, and the Army of the Czech Republic DLC's.
With the weapons comes a comprehensive set of attachments, all of which are removed from the baked-in versions that were included in Arma 2 and its DLCs. Attachments are made using the ASDG Joint Rails addon, so not only will you be able to use these attachments on vanilla and usermade weapons that support the rails, you will also be able to use applicable optics and attachments on the CUP weapons.
By “applicable” we mean that attachments can be used only on weapons that have the appropriate rail or mounting. Eastern style weapons like the AK family use the dovetail mounting on the side of the weapons, and hence you cannot mount an ACOG that is meant to be used on a Picatinny rail on an AK-74.
Most weapons come with the ability to mount a suppressor, although not all weapons are configured for this yet.
Ammo crates have been provided as they were in Arma 2, but their names have been adapted to the theme of Arma 3. So while the name of the US Army Special Weapons in Arma 2 was “US Special Weapons”, in Arma 3/CUP the name was changed to “Special Weapons [US ARMY]”, and so on.
